Learn to SwimWe deliver our swimming lessons through the Swim England Learn to Swim Pathway – the most successful programme of its kind.
Our adult swimming programme is about improving confidence, competence and technique with no age limit. It caters for every type of adult swimmer, including those who are unable to swim at all, beginners and those who are nervous about swimming. There is also support for swimmers who are coming back to swimming after a break or just those who want to improve their technique. As you work through each of the stages of our swim programme you will focus on developing the follow key skills:
- Entries and exits
- Treading water
- Rotation and orientation
- Streamlining
- Aquatic breathing
- Sculling
- Travel and coordination
As you work through each of these four stages you will focus on developing the follow key skills: - Floatation
- Stamina
- Submersion
- Water safety
STAGE 1
Be Water Confident - the Award is about gaining the confidence to enter the pool safely. It also covers the ability to move around the pool with confidence and the achieve basic core aquatics skills. These are entries, exists, buoyancy, balance and aquatics breathing. | | STAGE 2 Be a Swimmer – by the time you earn this Award you will have the necessary skills to start swimming independently over short distances (5 to 10 metres). You won’t need support or swimming aids. | | STAGE 3 Be a Better Swimmer – by this point you’ll be able to swim up to 400 metres independently. You’ll also have the confidence to try other pool activities such as Aquatics or lane swimming. | | STAGE 4 Be a Master Swimmer – gaining this Award means you can confidently entre the Masters section of a swimming club. It’s about more advanced swimming skills to enable you to compete. | |
