Completion of phase one construction works

Dec 22, 2021 | News

The first phase of the planned construction works at Wyndley Leisure Centre have now been completed. We are pleased to welcome our customers back on to the pitches. The works have been developed in line with a commitment to improve sporting facilities across the city and increase participation across all age groups in physical activity.

The venue has been selected as an official training facility for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. This is a significant achievement for Wyndley to be part of the legacy of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The leisure centre will be hosting the hockey, triathlon and para triathlon athletes and teams’ on the new Federation International Hockey standard pitch and improved athletics track.

The construction works that have now been completed at the leisure centre following the planned improvements are:
• An upgrade of the existing full-size hockey pitch up to a Federation International Hockey standard
• Improvements to the adjacent pitch up to 4G standard
• New fencing around the pitches that will enable safe and secure operation all year round
• Enhanced floodlighting to the pitches

The second phase of the works, repairs and improvements to the running track will commence in April 2022, with a completion date of mid-May 2022. We are working with the contractor to ensure that these temporary closures are kept to an absolute minimum, to reduce disruption to you and fellow users.

We recognise that there will be some disruption whilst the improvement works are undertaken and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. We would also like to thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
We will be providing regular progress updates on this webpage so please check back to find out how the improvement works are taking shape.
