Commencement of phase two construction works

Apr 04, 2022 |

The second phase of the works, repairs and improvements at Wyndley Leisure Centre will commence on Monday 4th April 2022, with a completion date of mid-May 2022. The athletics tracks will be closed to customers during this period. We are working with the contractor to ensure that this temporary closure of the athletics track will be kept to an absolute minimum, to reduce disruption to you and fellow users. Phase one has been completed and customers are now using the 4G football pitch and the Federation International Hockey standard pitch.

The works have been developed in line with a commitment to improve sporting facilities across the city and increase participation across all age groups in physical activity, as well as an official training facility for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Triathlete's.

The planned works to the track include:

  • Remedial works to the track.
  • A deep clean of the athletics track and all outfield areas.
  • A deep clean of tarmac paths beside the track and under fencing.
  • Repairs to the track drainage networks.
  • Installation of a new inside line running rail.
  • Line marking in accordance with World Athletics requirements to track, and all other athletic areas.
  • A new 1.2m picket fencing alongside the outer track.
  • A new IAAF certified hammer/discus cage
  • Trackmark accreditation.
We recognise that there will be some disruption whilst the improvement works are undertaken and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. We would also like to thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
We will be providing regular progress updates on this webpage so please check back to find out how the improvement works are taking shape. Should you have any questions or require any further information in the meantime, please contact us here
