“It’s a real honour to accept this award on behalf of Serco leisure, Birmingham Community Leisure Trust and our client partner Birmingham City Council.   The team and I, at the leisure centre are so proud of the difference that our new build leisure centre has made to the lives of local people and surrounding areas.  This facility is a real asset to the community, and we pride ourselves on making it accessible and inclusive for all.”

The centre opened its doors in August 2019, and is already a huge hit with local residents, and community groups.

Cllr Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “This is a richly deserved award for a popular community venue. Ladywood Leisure Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that shows our continued commitment to first-class grassroots sporting facilities in Birmingham.”

Ladywood has been designed to minimise life-cycle costs and support BCC’s push towards more sustainable and inclusive facilities, demonstrating the Council’s commitment to modernising its leisure infrastructure, while providing outstanding community leisure facilities, and driving increasing levels of participation.

The ukactive event is the UK’s premier health and fitness industry award’s night, recognising excellence across over 20 key individual and company-wide categories, including Physical Activity Champion, Unsung Hero, Workplace Wellbeing, and Disability and Inclusion. Ladywood Leisure Centre fought off strong competition from centres throughout the UK to be crowned champion in this key business category.
